The construction of the Ekiti Agro-Allied International Cargo Airport has been hailed as a major milestone for the state’s economic growth. Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, the Leader of the Senate, affirmed that the airport project will serve as a game-changer, positioning Ekiti as a key player on the global economic stage.
Speaking in Ado-Ekiti on Monday, after attending a stakeholders meeting of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the Ekiti Central Senatorial District, Senator Bamidele stated, “This airport will open up Ekiti’s economy to the world and complement the efforts of Governor Oyebanji in driving remarkable development.”
He further praised the airport’s state-of-the-art facilities, calling it “one of the best in Nigeria,” with cutting-edge technology, top-notch safety standards, and operational efficiency. The Senate Leader also lauded former Governor Kayode Fayemi for initiating the project, while congratulating Governor Oyebanji for bringing it to fruition.
“I just want to give God the glory that we could fly into our own airport in Ekiti. This is history, and it’s a very strategic development for us,” Senator Bamidele remarked, expressing pride in the facility’s world-class quality.
Pilots who flew Senator Bamidele to Ado-Ekiti were equally impressed, sharing their initial doubts about the airport before landing. “The quality of air traffic control and the state of the tarmac, which they had to run on, met world standards,” Bamidele revealed, citing the pilots’ commendations.
Governor Oyebanji has also confirmed that discussions are underway with commercial flight operators to begin regular flights at the airport, making travel more convenient for Ekiti residents. Senator Bamidele emphasized that this advancement, especially the plans for night flights, will further enhance the airport’s capacity.
“The airport represents the whole essence of continuity,” Senator Bamidele concluded, emphasizing its significance for Ekiti’s agro-allied sector. “It means that the economy of Ekiti is being further opened up, and mechanized farmers will benefit from the ability to ship their produce globally.”
With the completion of this airport, Ekiti is poised for unprecedented growth, attracting investors and strengthening its position as a key player in Nigeria’s agro-allied industry.
