The Association of Nigerian Electricity Distributors (ANED) has called on the Nigerian Air Force, the military, and the presidency to hold accountable those responsible for the brutal attack on Ikeja Electric staff and journalists.

The incident occurred on Thursday at the Ikeja Electric headquarters in Alausa, Lagos, when armed personnel from the Sam Ethnan Air Force Base reportedly invaded the premises, assaulting both workers and reporters.

ANED’s Executive Director of Research and Advocacy, Sunday Oduntan, who was also a victim of the attack, stressed that justice must be served. He expressed outrage, saying, “For people to leave Ikeja Air Force Base fully armed in trucks, to go somewhere and start beating civilians… someone must pay for this.”

The attack, which involved over a hundred individuals being made to lie on the floor and beaten, has raised alarms about the safety of citizens in the country.

Oduntan described the event as a “coup against Ikeja Electric” and warned that if justice is not served, similar incidents may escalate in the future. He added, “We want to see what the presidency will do… heads must roll.”

While Air Vice Marshal AK Ademulegun, the Area Officer Commanding, Logistics Command, promised to investigate the attack, Oduntan dismissed claims of ignorance on the matter, asserting that the military’s involvement was clear. “I want to believe that we’re in a sane country… this is how people easily plan and execute a coup,” he said.

The association is demanding full accountability, including the return of stolen materials like their database and the restoration of security for all DisCo workers.
