Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, welcomed Mr. Massimo De Luca, the Head of Cooperation at the European Union Delegation to Nigeria and ECOWAS, to the Government House today to discuss enhancing collaboration between the state and the EU in key sectors such as power and infrastructure.

“Our discussions focused on deepening our partnership with the EU, especially in the areas of power and infrastructure, as we work towards sustainable economic growth and development,” said Governor Mbah.

Enugu State is already engaged in several EU-backed projects, including solar-to-health and small hydro-power generation, aimed at providing uninterrupted power supply to the state’s industrial clusters. These projects align with the Governor’s vision of eradicating poverty and fostering exponential economic growth.

“We are making massive investments in our social sector—building 260 smart schools and 260 Type-2 primary healthcare centers—ensuring that no community is left behind in our development drive,” Governor Mbah emphasized.

Beyond infrastructure, the Governor highlighted the importance of sustainability by engaging local authorities and the private sector in project management. He expressed excitement about the EU’s renewable energy initiatives like small hydro-power and solar-for-health, and looks forward to extending this partnership to include solar-for-education, powering ICT centres, robotics, and AI laboratories in the state’s Smart Green Schools.

“Our budget tagline—exponential growth and inclusive prosperity—guides every step we take,” Governor Mbah concluded. “We are determined to lift every citizen by expanding economic opportunities, particularly in our rural communities.”

The partnership with the EU signals a promising future for Enugu as the state continues its commitment to inclusive prosperity and sustainable development.
