Endurance Amagbein, a former Niger Delta agitator, has denied any involvement in the recent attack on oil pipeline surveillance workers at Igbomotoru, Bayelsa State, stating that powerful figures are attempting to falsely implicate him.
In a statement released by his media aide, Funkere Oweifagha, Amagbein distanced himself from militant activities, declaring, “I don’t know anyone or group of persons still involved in militant activities in any part of Bayelsa State or the Niger Delta region.”
The attack, which occurred on March 18, was the first of its kind in the state since the amnesty program was introduced in 2009 by former President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua. Amagbein explained that the amnesty led to the cessation of militancy in the region, asserting, “Militancy in the Niger Delta region effectively ended in 2009.”
Amagbein also voiced concerns over alleged plots by pipeline contractors and political figures to bring him down due to his failure to support the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2023 Bayelsa State governorship election.
He warned that anyone engaging in criminal activities should be held accountable and urged the authorities not to associate his name with the attack. “I have no boys in the creeks,” he said, urging for an investigation into the incident.
