The Federal Government has announced the closure of the Independence Bridge (Marina bound) from April 1 for essential maintenance and rehabilitation works.

The bridge will remain closed until the end of May 2025, affecting motorists traveling from Ahmadu Bello Way and Adeola Odeku towards Marina, Eko Bridge, and Onikan by Zone 2.

Mrs. Olukorede Kesha, the Federal Controller of Works in Lagos, issued the announcement on Monday, advising commuters to plan their journeys ahead of the repair period.

“The closure will affect traffic traveling from Ahmadu Bello Way and Adeola Odeku towards Marina, Eko Bridge, and Onikan by Zone 2,” Kesha said in a statement.

She further urged motorists to use alternative routes to avoid traffic congestion, acknowledging the potential inconvenience.

“We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and thank the public for their understanding and cooperation as we work to ensure the safety and stability of the road infrastructure,” she added.
