The Federal Government has set a firm deadline for the completion of the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway, targeting May 10, 2026, under the Infrastructure Development and Refurbishment Investment (Tax Credit) Scheme.
This move follows a meeting with MTN and RCC Company Nig. Ltd, aimed at addressing delays and funding issues.
David Umahi, the Minister of Works, stressed the importance of meeting the deadline, stating, “MTN shall be held responsible should the road fail after construction on account of a shady job by the contractor.” He also emphasized that MTN would be held accountable for any substandard work by RCC.
Further addressing concerns, Umahi stated that no cost variations would be allowed unless they strictly adhered to the contract terms.
He also reprimanded MTN for prioritizing business profits over funding, warning that it could impact the public’s perception of the government’s commitment to infrastructure development.
The Enugu-Onitsha Expressway project, once completed, aims to enhance transportation and economic activity in the South-East region, ensuring better connectivity between Enugu and Onitsha.
