The Federal Government has launched a 990kW interconnected mini-grid in Lambata, Gurara LGA, Niger State, which will provide electricity to 3,900 households and businesses.

The project, the second under the Interconnected Mini-Grid Accelerated Scheme (IMAS), is funded by the European Union and Germany, with a total investment of €9.7 million. It is expected to scale up to 1.5MW in the future.

Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, emphasized the transformative impact of the project, stating, “Through IMAS, the Lambata community now has access to 990kWp of renewable energy, significantly improving local living standards and economic activities.”

He added, “This project is a shining example of how international partnerships, coupled with national efforts, can bring meaningful change to communities that need it the most.”

The Rural Electrification Agency’s Managing Director, Mr. Abba Abubakar Aliyu, noted the project’s broader impact on Nigeria’s power sector. “IMAS is focused on providing sustainable, renewable electricity to communities that have long been without reliable power, reducing the dependence on conventional and polluting energy sources.”

Governor of Niger State, Muhammed Bago, also expressed support for the initiative, saying, “We are ready to collaborate with the Rural Electrification Agency to provide more mini-grids for communities in the state.”

This mini-grid is expected to benefit 125,000 Nigerians, promoting economic growth, job creation, and improved healthcare and education services while advancing environmental sustainability by reducing carbon emissions.
