Benue State Governor, Fr. Hyacinth Alia on Wednesday conducted a comprehensive inspection of the ongoing remodeling of McCarthy Stadium in Makurdi.
This upgrade is a key initiative under the state government’s vision to transform the stadium into a world-class facility that meets international standards.
The renovation project, which is part of the administration’s broader commitment to sports development, aims to modernize the facility, positioning it as a prime venue for global sporting events. Governor Alia expressed satisfaction with the progress made so far, noting the significance of the upgrade in advancing the state’s sports agenda.
“I am pleased with the progress made so far and remain confident that, upon completion, McCarthy Stadium will be a source of pride for our people and a symbol of excellence in sports,” said Governor Alia, reflecting on the substantial strides taken in the project.
The stadium, once completed, is expected to host a wide range of international sporting events, boosting not only the state’s sporting culture but also its potential as a sports tourism hub.
The renovation will provide world-class facilities, including upgraded seating, modern changing rooms, and improved amenities for athletes and spectators.
Governor Alia reiterated the importance of the facility upgrade, stressing that it is part of the administration’s drive to give athletes the best infrastructure to excel. “We are diligently working to transform the facility into a world-class stadium that meets international standards,” the Governor emphasized.
The McCarthy Stadium project is expected to be completed in phases, with each phase enhancing the capacity and functionality of the facility.
