The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has announced an intensified effort to combat one-way driving and other road violations on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
This move follows a recent intervention by the FRSC’s Corridor 1 Command, aimed at addressing illegal road activities along the busy route.
Ibrahim Olajide, Officer-in-charge of the Ibafo Outpost in Ogun State, revealed during a visit to The Punch office in Magboro that the FRSC will significantly increase its patrols to curb dangerous driving.
“This will be done not only daily, it will be done on special occasions. We do have special patrols, which are under the coverage of the Corridor Commander,” Olajide said.
Olajide emphasized that the initiative is part of the FRSC’s ongoing commitment to improving road safety and minimizing crashes, which are often attributed to human factors such as speeding, wrongful overtaking, and drunk driving.
“Human factors, including speeding, use of phones while driving, and impatience, are the leading causes of crashes on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway,” Olajide noted.
In cases of major accidents, the FRSC collaborates with other agencies, including the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency and the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency, to ensure the swift clearing of traffic and restoration of normal flow.
This intensified patrol effort aims to reduce road accidents and violations, ensuring safer travel for commuters along one of Nigeria’s busiest highways.
