Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has called for peace amid the escalating political crisis in the state.
Speaking during the inauguration of the 85-year-old Okrika Grammar School in Okrika Local Government Area, Fubara urged all parties to embrace peace and adhere to the Supreme Court’s judgment.
“It is important at this stage that we all embrace peace. The Supreme Court has made its judgment; we don’t have any option but to abide by it,” Fubara said. “I am open any day, any time for total peace in our State because if I have to govern well, there is a need for peace to prevail.”
The governor’s appeal comes as tensions rise between him and the Rivers State House of Assembly. On Wednesday, Fubara and 27 lawmakers traded accusations over the governor’s failed attempt to re-present the 2025 Appropriation Bill. Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, mocked the governor’s efforts, suggesting Fubara should be impeached if found guilty of an impeachable offense.
Meanwhile, Ijaw stakeholders from the Kalabari Kingdom are planning a grand reception for Wike, scheduled for Saturday. The event, organized by the New Associates, aims to celebrate Wike for his contributions to the Kalabari Kingdom.
“All stakeholders in Kalabari are eagerly waiting to receive the FCT minister and to show him gratitude,” said Enemi George, Chairman of the publicity committee. “March 15 has been set aside to celebrate Nyesom Wike for his love for the Kalabari kingdom and its people. He has done much for the kingdom and he deserves to be celebrated.”
In a related development, the Rivers State House of Assembly has called on the Department of State Services (DSS) to investigate State Chief Judge Simeon Amadi over allegations of age falsification. The Assembly, led by Speaker Martin Amaewhule, resolved to write the DSS following documents presented by House Leader Major Jack.
“Falsification is a serious offence, but the allegation must first be proven,” Amaewhule stated.
“The House is calling on the Department of State Service to investigate the alleged age falsification by the Chief Judge to ascertain the veracity of the allegation.”
As the political crisis continues, Fubara remains focused on fostering peace and development in Rivers State. “The only thing that we owe this state is peace and development,” he concluded
