The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, disclosed on Wednesday that the party inherited over N8.9 billion in legal liabilities. This debt is linked to pre-election litigations, election-related cases, and appeals concerning legislative, governorship, and presidential elections.
Ganduje made the revelation during a National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting at the APC National Secretariat in Abuja. He explained that the party’s National Legal Adviser has been working diligently to reduce the financial burden through alternative dispute resolution, though some of the party’s accounts are still garnisheed due to these outstanding legal obligations.
“We still passionately appeal to the National Executive Committee to intervene accordingly,” Ganduje remarked.
He further mentioned, “It is important to note that some of our accounts are still garnisheed.”
Despite the financial strain, Ganduje emphasized that the party is focusing on the upcoming governorship elections in Anambra and Osun states, with preparations already underway.
“Our focus is now on Anambra and Osun states, and in compliance with the timetable released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the Party has already begun preparations in earnest for the conduct of the Anambra primary election scheduled for April,” he said.
Addressing internal issues, Ganduje highlighted the ongoing reconciliation efforts within the party, noting that they are beginning to yield positive results. “We have embarked on massive reconciliation of aggrieved party members, and this move is gradually yielding the desired positive results for the party,” he added.
The meeting, attended by key party leaders and governors, discussed strategies for overcoming legal and internal party challenges as the APC prepares for the 2025 elections.
