Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun has described the late Oba Adeleke Adelekan Idowu-Basibo, the Alaperu of Iperu, as a great and reliable monarch whose contributions to the development of Iperu and Remoland will never be forgotten.
Visiting the palace of the Alaperu on Saturday night to condole with the family, the Governor expressed deep sorrow over the monarch’s passing, which he described as both a personal and communal loss. “Kabiyesi was very passionate about the progress, peace, and development of this town and its entire community,” Abiodun stated.
“If you look back at the last 22-23 years and compare what Iperu was before he assumed the throne and today, the difference is already clear; it speaks for itself.”
Oba Idowu-Basibo, who served as the Alaperu for over two decades, passed away on February 6, 2025, exactly 23 years after his appointment, a remarkable coincidence noted by the Governor. “It is a void that will take several years to fill,” Abiodun remarked.
The Governor also called for peace and order during the mourning period, emphasizing the importance of maintaining unity in the community. “I want to plead with all of us… this is the least that we can do for our monarch. Let us accord him the respect and dignity that he deserves.”
The Lisa of Iperu, Chief Rotimi Odubona, thanked the Governor for his support, especially as he called for the monarch to be laid to rest without delay.
To ensure a fitting tribute for the late Alaperu, Governor Abiodun announced that a committee, led by the Secretary to the State Government, would be set up to organize the burial arrangements. This committee will work closely with the Iperu/Remo traditional council and other relevant stakeholders.
