Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has reaffirmed that the local government elections scheduled for Saturday will proceed as planned, despite an appeal from the Attorney-General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi, to suspend the polls.
In a statement released on Friday by his spokesman, Olawale Rasheed, Adeleke emphasized his commitment to the rule of law, stating that no individual could override judicial authority.
“As for me and my people, we stand by the rule of law, not illegal self-help,” the governor said. “Election is going to hold, and the outcome will be a fast-tracked development at the local level. I urge our people to remain peaceful. Osun is a truly peaceful state.”
Adeleke also urged all political parties and stakeholders to respect democratic norms. “My advice to all parties, including local and national stakeholders, is to abide by democratic norms,” he added.
He further reassured residents, saying, “Our people are prepared for elections tomorrow. They yearn to have their choices as chairmen and councillors.”
According to the governor, the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSIEC) has done a commendable job in preparing for the elections, and he believes the contest will be fair for all parties involved.
