The construction of the Adiabo-Ikoneto Road in Odukpani LGA of Cross River State which was started and abandoned by the late General Sani Abacha’s military government 30 years ago has begun.

This follows Governor Bassey Otu’s ground-breaking ceremony for the commencement of the 11-kilometre project on the road yesterday.

Otu said the road has been a source of pain when work on it was stopped and appeared as if it would never be completed, little did he know that he was the one that would complete it.

The governor pointed out that the Adiabo-Ikoneto Road, when completed, will bring inter-city development.

He noted that the road would yield ease of access to Creek Town Road at the Odukpani area of the state.

Otu tasked inhabitants of Adiabo-Ikoneto to be law-abiding, and supportive of the project.

Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure Pius Ankpo said the project, which will be accompanied by the construction of three bridges across swampy areas, is commencing with the first phase of 4.5 kilometres, to make for effective resource management.

The flagging off ceremony was graced by the Obong of Calabar, His Eminence, Edidem Ekpo Okon Abasi Otu V.
