Executive Governor of Adamawa State, Rt. Hon. Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri presented the Royal Staff of Office to His Royal Majesty, Gubo Johnson Diyo Matalo, marking the formal beginning of his reign as the Gubo Yungur.
The historic ceremony held today in Dumne, was attended by dignitaries and members of the Yungur community, who gathered to witness the event that holds great significance for the people of the Chiefdom and the entire state of Adamawa.
In his speech, Governor Fintiri emphasized the importance of this occasion for the Yungur people, stating, “This occasion marks a significant milestone not only for my people, the Yungur, but also for Adamawa State as a whole.” He recalled his administration’s commitment to shaping a future rooted in the values of the Constitution and the needs of the people, highlighting the creation of the Yungur Chiefdom as a crucial part of that vision.
Governor Fintiri also reassured the Yungur people that the Chiefdom would remain intact. “Yungur Chiefdom has come to stay. By the Grace of God and the will of our people, no one or nothing will tamper with it,” he declared.
The Governor called on the new Gubo to prioritize unity, peace, and progress within the Chiefdom, urging him to address critical issues such as security and the ongoing farmer-herder conflicts. “As a matter of urgency, I call on Gubo Matalo to ensure that reports of herder/farmer conflicts in the area are brought to the barest minimum,” said Fintiri, stressing the importance of harmonious coexistence in the region.
In his congratulatory message to the new Gubo, Fintiri highlighted the vast potential of the Yungur region, noting its fertile land, livestock resources, and mineral deposits, which could propel the Chiefdom into becoming a thriving economy and food basket for the state. He also acknowledged the diverse ethnic groups within the Chiefdom, encouraging peaceful coexistence. “The direction, pace, and extent of progress in your chiefdom depends to a large extent on how you embrace each other,” he stated.
Following the Governor’s address, the formal presentation of the Royal Staff of Office was made, officially marking the beginning of Gubo Matalo’s reign.
This event comes after Governor Fintiri officially presented the Royal Staff of Office to His Royal Highness Alhaji Sani Ribadu, also marking the start of his reign as the Emir of Fufore Emirate.
