Bees of activities are expected to commence soon ln Akure, the 0ndo State capital as the State Governor, Honourable Lucky 0rimisan Ayedayiwa has approved the establishment of a Diaspora Smart City Initiative tagged” Green Economy Initiative.
This was the outcome of the weekly State Executive Council (Exco) meeting held at the Governor’s Office, Alagbaka, Akure on Monday 22nd of July, 2024
Commissioner for Regional lntegration and Diaspora Relations Prince Boye 0logbese who presented the memo at the Exco meeting stressed the advantages expected from citing a Diaspora Smart City tagged Green Economy Initiative ln 0ndo State
ln his words, the project is going to be a tourism hub for the entire South West Regional development , It is a complete diversification of the economy, especially when artificial lntelligence is moving ahead of crude oil as source of revenue.
“The project will open our Sunshine State Capital, through Akure Airport to other major cities within Nigeria and the entire world .”
In the context of global tourism business, diasporans and foreigners will have ample opportunity to own befitting edifice and holiday apartments.
The Green Economy initiative aspect of the project is to tackle the climate change issue, which is affecting the entire world .
The idea is to increase our Internally Generated Revenue (lGR) and promote economy growth through DDI Direct Diaspora investment initiative and create massive employment for our teeming youths.
We have learnt and understand that government cannot do business, but to create platforms and environment for business to thrive.
We are not selling land for investors who want to invest in our tourism business, rather, the project is (PPP) Public Private Partnership which (SPV) Special Purpose Vehicle has adopted a mechanism to accommodate all the potential investors on the Smart City.
We want to use our Blue economy to compliment our Green economy, marketing our Deep Seaport as a tourist destination and to promote tourism business in the region.
Under our regional business integration, 0ndo and Ekiti States, respectively, has agreed to push the Diaspora Smart City tagged Green Economy lnitiative Project through DAWN Comission, NIDC0M, NID0, NDIS and make it a reality .
0logbese recall the unflinching efforts of late Arakunrin 0luwarotimi Akeredolu, the immediate past governor of 0ndo State who have the vision to upgrade 0ndo State from a civil service state to economic viable state .
” The coming on board of the deep seaport ln 0ndo State is another giant stride and potential to place the state at a competitive economic growth”, Ologbese said
