Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Biodun Oyebanji, has expressed deep sympathy to Deputy Governor, Chief (Mrs) Monisade Afuye, following the passing of her mother, Olori Esther Iyalaje Adegboye, at the age of 97. Madam Adegboye died early on Tuesday morning after a brief illness.

In a heartfelt statement, Governor Oyebanji described the death of the late matriarch as “painful” but acknowledged that it marked the end of a “dignified era,” highlighting her lasting positive impact on the Ikere Ekiti community.

“Her Excellency, the Deputy Governor, and the entire family can take solace in the fact that Mama lived a good life and left legacies of selfless service, diligence, and loyalty,” Oyebanji said. “Her contributions to women’s mobilisation and emancipation will always be remembered. History will continue to be kind to Mama.”

The Governor further praised Madam Adegboye’s role in the growth of Ikere Ekiti, particularly in empowering women and contributing to community development. “Mama was an honest and resourceful community leader, whose good deeds are reflected in the remarkable qualities of her children,” he remarked, noting that they had excelled in their careers and displayed virtues of loyalty, honesty, and reliability.

Governor Oyebanji visited the Deputy Governor’s official residence in Ado-Ekiti to personally convey his condolences. He offered prayers for the repose of Madam Adegboye’s soul, asking that God grant the family the strength to bear their loss.

“May God grant her eternal rest,” the Governor concluded.
