Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago, has officially sworn in the new members of the Niger State Independent Electoral Commission (NSIEC), signaling the start of preparations for the 2025 Local Government elections.
The ceremony, held at Senior Magistrate Court 7, saw the Chairman and other members of the electoral body take the oath of office, administered by Halima Yusuf.
Governor Bago congratulated the newly appointed members, emphasizing that their selection was based on their reputation and distinguished service to Niger State. “You were carefully chosen as elder statesmen because of your character and commitment at various levels of governance,” he said.
The governor urged the commission to begin their work immediately, highlighting that the government would provide all necessary support to ensure their success. “With this oath of allegiance, you are now ready to kickstart the process of the 2025 Local Government elections,” he added.
In response, the Chairman of the Electoral Commission, Engr. Mohammed Jibrin Imam, expressed gratitude to the governor for their appointment. “We acknowledge that the task ahead is enormous, given the involvement of many political parties,” Imam said. “However, we assure you that we will not fail and will give our best to fulfill this mandate.”
The newly sworn-in members of the NSIEC include:

- Barr. M.A. Liman, Permanent Commissioner I
- Nasiru Ubandiya, Permanent Commissioner II
- Yahaya Idris Abara, Permanent Commissioner III
- Capt. Mohammed Baro, Permanent Commissioner IV
- Kabiru Tanko Zama, Permanent Commissioner V
- Barr. Amina Guar, Permanent Commissioner VI
- Barr. Ahmed Borgu, Permanent Commissioner VII
The appointment followed approval from the Niger State House of Assembly on December 23, 2024.
