The Executive Governor of Jigawa state Alhaji Mohammed Badaru Abubakar MON, says Nigerian Governors have no fear for direct primaries.
The Governor disclosed this while responding to questions in an interview with BBC Hausa in Abuja.
According to him, governors are only concerned about the cost expenditure the direct primaries would attract, adding that indirect primaries are cost-effective if compared.
“No governor in Nigeria is worried about the direct primaries. To us, it doesn’t matter at all. What we are concerned about is the cost-effectiveness of the direct primaries. If the federal government feels it can afford to provide the necessary materials and security in every ward in the country. So, be it.” the governor explained.
When asked why the All Progressive Congress postponed its national convention, he said, “ we decided to postpone it because the early date coincides with Christmas and it will not be fair to our Christian counterparts. That’s why we decided to shift it to February.”
