Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has signed the Kano State Security Neighborhood Watch Law, 2025, as part of efforts to enhance security and crime prevention at the grassroots level.
The new law, passed by the Kano State House of Assembly, establishes a legal framework for community-based security initiatives aimed at improving public safety and complementing the work of law enforcement agencies.
During the 25th Kano State Executive Council meeting at the Government House, Governor Yusuf highlighted the importance of community involvement in addressing security challenges.
“This law is a significant step towards ensuring the safety of our people,” said Governor Yusuf. “Security is not just the responsibility of the government; it requires collaboration between authorities and the public. By formalizing neighbourhood watch structures, we are empowering communities to play a more active role in safeguarding lives and property.”
The Governor emphasized that the initiative would address crimes such as robbery, drug abuse, and other security threats plaguing various parts of the state.
“We can achieve a safer Kano when we all work together,” Yusuf stated, urging residents to support the initiative by cooperating with security agencies and reporting suspicious activities.
In addition to the Security Neighborhood Watch Law, the Governor also signed two other bills into law—the Kano State Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (Amendment) Law, 2025, and the Kano State Centre for Disease Control and Prevention Law, 2025.
Governor Yusuf reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening security and improving the welfare of Kano residents.
