In a bid to improve its own transportation network, Kano State has sent a high-level delegation to Lagos to learn from the state’s renowned advancements in transportation infrastructure.

Led by Hon. Ibrahim Namadi, the Kano State Commissioner for Transportation, the delegation’s visit aimed to gather insights on how Lagos developed its state-of-the-art transport systems. The team included Hon. Aliyu Isa (Permanent Secretary), Bashir Ado Gaya (Director of Admin and General Services, Ministry of Transportation), Dr. Nura Ibrahim Hassan (Technical Advisor, Transport Policy and Planning), and Najeeb Mahmoud Abdussalam (Transport Specialist Consultant).

The delegation toured key facilities in Lagos such as the Ikeja Bus Terminal, the Red Line Ikeja Station, and the Blue Line, observing firsthand the efficient transport systems in place.

“We are here to learn from the successes of Lagos’ transportation infrastructure, which has set a benchmark for the rest of the country,” said Hon. Namadi. “Our goal is to apply these lessons to help transform Kano’s transport system.”

The Kano team was warmly received by the Managing Director of the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA), Engr. Mrs. Abimbola Akinajo, who briefed them on LAMATA’s operations and its strategic plans.

“Under the leadership of Governor Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Lagos laid the foundation for its remarkable transportation systems through the Strategic Transport Master Plan (STMP), and we are proud to continue implementing and evolving this vision with each successive governor,” Engr. Akinajo stated.

The delegation’s visit highlights the growing interest in replicating Lagos’ transportation success in other Nigerian states, as they look to improve infrastructure, reduce congestion, and provide more efficient public transport for their citizens.
