Katsina State has invested N5.7 billion to provide 3,610 women across 361 wards with four goats each, marking a significant step in the state’s push for agricultural self-sufficiency.

Governor Dikko Radda launched the initiative at Dan-Nakolo, Daura Local Government Area, emphasizing its importance in empowering local farmers, particularly women.

“This is a vital part of our strategy to enhance food security, create sustainable livelihoods, and promote livestock farming,” Governor Radda stated. “The goal is to make Katsina a leader in self-sufficiency, not just in the north, but across Nigeria.”

The initiative, which involves training in animal health, nutrition, and sustainable farming practices, aims to equip farmers with the skills to improve goat breeding and productivity.

Governor Radda further added, “By focusing on livestock breeding and genetic improvement, we are committed to increasing productivity and ensuring the health and well-being of the goats.”

The Special Adviser on Livestock, Yusuf Suleiman, emphasized the government’s commitment to poverty reduction, saying, “Women play a crucial role in driving economic progress. By empowering them, we are confident they will become catalysts for positive change in their communities.”
