Katsina State government has approved the installation of Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras across all 34 local government areas to combat the increasing threats from bandits and terrorists.
The announcement was made by Robo Tambaya, Chairman of Danja Local Government and the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria in Katsina State, during a stakeholders’ town hall meeting organized by the state Police Command. The meeting was part of activities marking the 2025 Police Day celebrations.
“We have had discussions with the Governor about ensuring maximum security,” Tambaya stated. “34 local government councils and 361 wards will be equipped with CCTV cameras to enhance security and reduce crime.”
Governor Umar Radda has been commended for his continuous efforts to ensure the safety of citizens. Tambaya highlighted, “Governor Umar Radda has been on his toes to ensure the security of every citizen of Katsina State.”
The meeting also addressed the role of the police in maintaining peace, with stakeholders urging the force to take more decisive action against criminals, particularly within its own ranks.
In response, AIG Musa Abubakar, representing the Inspector-General of Police, assured that any police officer undermining the institution’s credibility would face strict disciplinary action.
“We will leave no stone unturned in ensuring discipline within the force,” Abubakar emphasized.
The ongoing Police Day activities, set to run through to April 6, 2025, will include exhibitions, a walkathon, and a grand parade at Eagle Square, Abuja, on April 6.
This CCTV initiative is part of a broader effort to improve security and create safer communities for residents of Katsina State.
