The Kebbi State Government has strongly refuted recent claims by the National Hydro Electric Power Producing Areas Development Commission (HYPADEC) regarding the multi-billion naira Yauri township water supply project.

HYPADEC had alleged that the project was incomplete due to the Kebbi government’s failure to fulfill its part of the agreement.

In a statement issued on Monday, the Kebbi State Government clarified that the Yauri water supply project, which includes the provision of large capacity water tanks, modern machinery installation, and network rehabilitation, is fully funded by the federal government.

“It is misleading and outright falsehood for HYPADEC to attribute its failure to execute the project based on design and specifications after the release of approved funds,” the statement read.

The government also emphasized that Kebbi has been punctual in its monthly counterpart funding for the commission’s management and programs.

“Governor Nasir Idris is committed to the socio-economic and infrastructural transformation of Kebbi state,” the statement continued, stressing that the state will not allow duplication of capital projects already funded by the federal government.

HYPADEC, established by the federal government to address challenges in riverine communities, has yet to provide further comment.
