The Kebbi State Government has rejected allegations that substandard materials were used in the N7.23 billion Argungu Township Old Bypass Road project.

The accusations, made by an unnamed media outlet on March 18, 2025, suggested the use of inferior materials, prompting calls for investigations by anti-graft agencies such as the EFCC and ICPC.

In response, Governor Nasir Idris’ administration described the claims as “baseless and misleading,” emphasizing that the project adhered to approved engineering standards.

A statement from the governor’s spokesperson, Ahmed Idris, dismissed the allegations, stating, “It is evident that certain faceless individuals, under the guise of activism, are behind this unfounded claim.”

The government clarified that the 6.4-kilometer dualization project, awarded to Amirco Engineering, followed the proper specifications. “The contract details should have been reviewed before such misleading claims were made,” the statement emphasized.

The project, which includes road rehabilitation, drainage systems, and additional infrastructure like solar streetlights, was explained in detail.

The breakdown of costs for the project included N6.83 billion for civil works, N63.92 million for water relocation, and N339.91 million for compensation, totaling N7.23 billion.

The statement reaffirmed the government’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and maintaining high-quality standards in public projects, asserting that the allegations were entirely false.
