Kogi State Governor, Usman Ododo, has expressed his strong commitment to press freedom and media independence, praising the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) for its significant contributions to democracy and national development as it marks its 70th anniversary.
In a statement issued on Monday in Lokoja by his Special Adviser on Media, Ismail Isah, Governor Ododo emphasized the vital role of the media in promoting transparency and holding leaders accountable.
“A free and independent press is the foundation of a thriving democracy,” Ododo stated, reinforcing his administration’s support for journalists to operate without fear or intimidation.
The governor further acknowledged the resilience and dedication of Nigerian journalists, commending their ability to deliver credible information amidst numerous challenges.
He encouraged media professionals to uphold the ethics of journalism, fight against misinformation, and embrace technological innovations for continued professional excellence.
Ododo concluded by assuring the NUJ of his government’s ongoing support in fostering a media environment that drives positive change in the country. “I am confident that the union will continue to set high standards in journalism, contributing to the progress of our great nation,” he said.
