A fresh crisis appears to be looming in the opposition Action Democratic Congress, (ADC) in Kogi State as the member representing Yagba West in the State House of Assembly, Ibikunle Idowu openly declared his support for the candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress, (APC) Usman Ododo ahead of the state’s November 11th governorship election.
Media recalls that Idowu was elected on March 11th 2023 to the Kogi State House of Assembly under the platform of the ADC.
Addressing the State Assembly correspondent shortly after the day’s plenary in Lokoja, Idowu alleged that the current flag bearer for ADC in the forthcoming governorship election Elder Leke Abejide turned his back on the ADC presidential candidate during the 2023 Presidential election.
He alleged that the ADC candidate in Kogi State, Elder Leke Abejide mobilized a high level of support for Asiwaju Ahmed Tinubu the incumbent president even though the ADC had its own presidential candidate.
The eighth Assembly lawmaker said he has more advanced reasons for mobilizing his constituents to support the governorship candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress APC, Usman Ododo despite being a member of the opposition party.
Idowu, however, ruled out the insinuation of defecting to APC before the election, adding that his decision to support the APC candidate in Kogi State cannot be tagged an anti-party activity.
His words ” I am openly declaring my support Governor Yahaya Bello and the APC Candidate Ahmed Usman Ododo. Irrespective of the differences in our political parties, my relationship with Governor Yahaya Bello has remained intact and cordial.
“I am not elected into office to fight the government rather I am to use my office to attract development to my constituency through a cordial relationship with the Executive and Judiciary”.
He emphasized that he is not a stooge to anybody but rather a politician with pedigree and reputation.
