Kogi State has officially assumed control over its electricity regulation with the establishment of the Kogi State Electricity Regulatory Commission.
This move follows the amended Electricity Act of 2023, allowing the state to reduce its reliance on the national framework for power distribution and regulation.
Special Adviser to Governor Ahmed Ododo, Ismail Isah, confirmed the development, stating, “Under the leadership of Governor Ododo, the state has leveraged the amended Electricity Act 2023 to take full control of its power sector.”
The state has also set up Kogi Electricity Distribution Limited, a subsidiary of the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company, to handle power distribution across Kogi.
Isah noted, “Kogi now joins other states like Lagos, Enugu, and Kano in taking charge of their electricity generation and distribution.”
This move marks a significant step in the state’s efforts to enhance its energy independence and improve electricity supply for residents.
