The Kwara State Government has approved a new Consolidated Health Salary Structure, CONHESS, and allowances for nurses and midwives on its payroll.
An indication of this was contained in a letter of appreciation to Governor Abdul Rahman Abdulrazaq, made available on Friday to newsmen in Ilorin, the state capital.
Media recalls that the association recently issued the state government a 21-day ultimatum to meet its demands or risk an industrial strike by the members.
The demands included the employment of additional nursing personnel in the state-owned hospitals and an improved welfare package for members of the association.
The association later suspended its threat before the expiration of the ultimatum after the approval of the demands.
A letter of appreciation by the Chairman and Secretary of the association, Comrade Shehu Aminu and Comrade Markus, to the governor said the approval of the new CONHESS scale and allowances for nurses and midwives would go a long way to improve healthcare delivery and reduce the brain drain that has inflicted the sector.
The association thanked the Secretary of the state Hospital Management Board and the Head of Service, Mrs Susan Modupe Oluwole, for the vital role played to actualise the demands.
