The Lagos State House of Assembly has called for the urgent completion of all abandoned roads in the state, including the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Road in Igbogbo Bayeku, Ikorodu, which has been left unfinished since it was awarded in 2017.

The motion was raised by Hon. Aro Moshood (Ikorodu 2) during Thursday’s plenary session, highlighting the dangers posed by the neglected road.

“During the last rainy season, a viral video showed a student being swept away by floodwaters while trying to board a truck to cross the road,” Hon. Aro stated. “The area has also become a hotspot for robberies, making residents feel unsafe.”

The motion calls on Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to direct contractors to resume work immediately, provide 60% of the required funding to contractors, ensure their security, and assign the Acting Committee on Works to investigate the issue and report back within two weeks.

Hon. Sa’ad Olumo (Ajeromi-Ifelodun 1) supported the motion, stating, “The government has allocated sufficient budgetary provisions for road projects, and while contractors cited rising material costs, adjustments have been made. We need the contractors to explain the delay.”

Other lawmakers expressed frustration over the issue. Hon. Ganiyu Okanlawon (Kosofe I) emphasized, “It’s time to enforce strict measures against contractors who fail to deliver. The Commissioner for Works must brief the House on the state of roads across Lagos.”

Hon. Richard Kasumu (Ikeja 2) criticized the neglect of Ikorodu, highlighting the community’s ongoing struggle with poor infrastructure. “Ikorodu has suffered erratic electricity and bad roads for seven years,” he said.

The House resolved to take immediate action, urging Governor Sanwo-Olu to ensure the swift completion of the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Road and all other abandoned road projects in Lagos.
