The Lagos State Government has reaffirmed the legality of its speed limit regulations, urging motorists to comply to ensure safety on the roads.

Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, emphasized that the legal foundation for imposing penalties is backed by Section 28(2)(a) of the Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law (2018).

“The Ministry of Transportation is solely responsible for determining the size, colour, and type of traffic signs in Lagos State, ensuring standardisation and adherence to global best practices,” Osiyemi said in a statement.

The fine for violating the speed limit is N50,000, while running a red light attracts a N20,000 penalty. Osiyemi also addressed misinformation about the cameras, stating that they are currently placed on Alapere Road and Mobolaji Bank Anthony for traffic monitoring.

The commissioner further reassured the public that these speed limit cameras were installed after comprehensive studies and aimed at enhancing road safety. He noted that more areas might be covered after further reviews of traffic data.
