Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu is under increasing pressure to address the leadership turmoil within the Lagos State House of Assembly.

The crisis erupted following the removal of Mudashiru Obasa as speaker, with Mojisola Meranda elected to replace him.

Tensions have escalated, with security operatives sealing off the speaker’s office and deploying police and task force officers around the assembly complex.

The assembly also requested additional security from the Department of State Services (DSS) on February 18, fearing unrest linked to Obasa’s planned return.

Babatunde Bank-Anthony, a prominent APC chieftain, has urged Governor Sanwo-Olu to step in and resolve the crisis. Speaking on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily, Bank-Anthony stated, “I expect the governor, as well, to say something to this. He is the number one man in Lagos State. He cannot ignore what happened yesterday because that is the parliament that he reports to; that is the parliament that makes the law for the state he is governing. The governor should speak up about this issue to the right quarters.”

Bank-Anthony also weighed in on Obasa’s future, saying, “If Obasa cannot come to the House as a member, let him resign after 20 years in the Assembly. Let him give somebody else a chance.”

Governor Sanwo-Olu’s spokesperson, Gboyega Akosile, clarified earlier that the governor was not involved in Obasa’s impeachment, distancing the state leadership from the assembly’s internal matters.
