Lagos State Government has announced a one-week public review of the draft Ibeju-Lekki Model City Plan (2024-2044), aimed at shaping the 20-year development framework for the area.
The review, set to run from February 26 to March 4, will allow residents and stakeholders to inspect the plan and provide feedback on its infrastructure, land use, and urban development strategies.
Dr. Oluyinka Olumide, Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, highlighted the importance of community involvement in the development process, stating, “It is imperative to know that public inspection of the draft Ibeju-Lekki Model City Plan is in tandem with the state’s culture of citizens’ participation and international best practices in the preparation of physical development plans.”
The plan will be available for inspection at several locations across Lagos, including the Secretariat in Alausa, Ikeja, and the Ibeju-Lekki Local Government Secretariat. The inspection period will be from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. daily, giving residents ample time to contribute.
Olumide emphasized, “Public participation is crucial to shaping the final plan, aligning with international best practices and the state’s commitment to inclusive urban development.” Feedback will be gathered during the review, with the final plan set for official adoption on April 11 at the Lekki Local Council Development Area Hall.
The Ibeju-Lekki Model City Plan will guide the area’s development over the next two decades, promoting sustainable growth and structured urban expansion.
