In a heated exchange, Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has lashed out at the Oyo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for criticizing his comments during the swearing-in of newly elected local government chairmen in Osun State.

The ceremony, which took place in Osogbo, was conducted by Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke.

Makinde, who was present at the event, urged the APC to seek legal action rather than resorting to violence in resolving the local government crisis in Osun.

“We must learn from history and avoid plunging Osun into turmoil,” he said, referring to the historical ‘Wild Wild West’ crisis.

The APC responded sharply, with its Publicity Secretary, Olawale Sadare, condemning Makinde’s actions, calling his participation in the event a “show of shame.” The party also warned the governor against making inflammatory remarks that could escalate tensions in Osun.

In a swift response, Makinde’s spokesperson, Sulaimon Olanrewaju, dismissed the APC’s criticism as “mumbo jumbo,” stating that the party’s statement was not worth a response.

The APC also accused Makinde of siding with “anti-democratic forces” and undermining constitutional democracy, claiming that his actions were part of a broader strategy to challenge President Bola Tinubu’s stance on local government autonomy.

Despite the criticism, Makinde remained firm, asserting that his intervention was aimed at ensuring peace and stability in the region.
