Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has warned the All Progressives Congress (APC) against undermining the democratic process in Osun State following the successful swearing-in of 30 newly-elected local government chairmen.
Speaking on Sunday, Makinde urged the APC not to use federal power to interfere with the election outcome, emphasizing the importance of respecting democratic procedures.
“We just want to peacefully deliver the dividends of democracy to our people. So, nobody should resort to self-help,” Makinde stated during the ceremony in Osogbo on February 23, 2025.
While the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) swept the elections, winning all the chairmanship seats, the APC has disputed the legitimacy of the poll. Despite concerns from the police and the Attorney-General regarding security and legal matters, Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State insisted that the elections would proceed as planned.
Makinde, accompanied by PDP Governors’ Forum Chairman, Senator Bala Mohammed, expressed solidarity with Adeleke’s administration, congratulating the newly elected chairmen and urging them to fulfill their campaign promises.
