The political drama surrounding the Lagos State House of Assembly has deepened as former Speaker Mudashiru Obasa claims that Mojisola Meranda, the current Speaker, stepped down during a peace meeting last weekend.
Obasa, in an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, said Meranda herself announced her resignation during a meeting attended by key party leaders at the Lagos House in Marina. “She made it clear that she has stepped down,” Obasa said.
Obasa questioned the legitimacy of his removal, asserting that it did not follow the proper procedures. “I have never been removed. I am not against removal, but it must follow the rules of the House and the Constitution,” he emphasized.
He further challenged the validity of the meeting’s decisions, highlighting that resignation processes should include formal letters and clear actions. “If I were to resign, would I still be here? I’m sure you’d still address me as Speaker, even though we’ve never had a conversation before,” Obasa remarked.
Obasa’s statements have added to the ongoing political tension, as he continues to maintain that he remains the valid Speaker of the Lagos Assembly.
