The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has extended its “Help the Girl Child” program to Oguta in Imo State and Yenagoa in Bayelsa State, emphasizing the importance of education and empowerment for young girls in the region.

At the launch in Oguta, NDDC Managing Director, Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, through the Director of Education, Health, and Social Services, Dr. George Uzowanne, promised educational materials, including U-lesson tablets, textbooks, and desks, to support the students’ academic journey. “We are committed to human capital development,” Uzowanne stated.

Encouraging students to focus on their studies, Dr. Kelechi Nwalue, NDDC’s Imo State Office Director, urged the girls to stay away from social vices, while Mrs. Chioma Nwakwue, Deputy Director of EHSS, emphasized the importance of self-confidence and discipline.

In Bayelsa, NDDC Bayelsa Director, Godknows Alamieseigha, highlighted the barriers faced by girls in the region and reiterated the importance of nurturing their aspirations for a bright future. Mrs. Maria Olodi, a resource speaker, emphasized that empowerment enables young girls to take charge of their lives, asserting, “Empowerment gives you the authority to become stronger, more confident, and courageous.”

The initiative also included donations of food supplies to the people of Oguta, with residents encouraged to foster unity and peace for sustainable development.

This move reflects the NDDC’s ongoing efforts to not only build infrastructure but also invest in human capital development across the Niger Delta region.
