The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has urged users of prepaid metres to update their metres before November 2024.
NERC made this known on Tuesday through its official account on X, formerly Twitter.
The announcement comes on the heels of electricity companies’ notice to customers about the need to update their prepaid metres to avoid service disruption.
NERC stressed that the update is free and would not affect customers’ existing units.
It added that users may not be able to recharge their prepaid metres without the update.
“If you have a prepaid metre, it may be time for an update. From November 2024,” the electricity regulator wrote.
