Nine Injured in Lagos Ferry Fire

Nine individuals were injured in a fire that broke out on the Igbega Eko vessel at the Ipakodo Ferry Terminal in Lagos on Thursday, April 3, 2025.

The injured, comprising passengers, Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA) personnel, and Lag Ferry staff, are currently receiving treatment at two hospitals across the state.

The Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA) confirmed the update on their official X page, revealing that all victims are showing signs of improvement.

The statement detailed, “Six individuals are under care at General Hospital, Ikorodu, where medical personnel dedicated to ensuring their optimal recovery are closely monitoring them.

Three others are receiving stable treatment at a private hospital, and no life-threatening conditions have been reported.”

The incident occurred at approximately 6:45 a.m. when the fire erupted aboard the ferry.

LASWA commended emergency responders for their swift actions, stating, “We commend the swift response of emergency services and acknowledge the public’s cooperation during this event.”

An investigation is currently underway to determine the cause of the fire, and LASWA has assured the public that safety reviews will be conducted to prevent similar incidents in the future.
