The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Ondo State has uncovered an illegal crude oil reservoir hidden in a forest in the Ilaje Local Government Area.

The discovery was made during a joint operation with the Nigeria Army and TANTITA Security Service on Sunday, March 25, 2025, around 2:12 pm.

In a statement released by the NSCDC spokesperson, DSC Daniel Aidamenbor, it was revealed that no arrests were made as the suspects had already fled the scene by the time authorities arrived.

“The illegal crude oil reservoir was concealed in a remote forest in Obe-Akingboye, a location notorious for illicit petroleum activities,” said Aidamenbor.

NSCDC’s Ondo State Commandant, Mr. Oluyemi Ibiloye, warned those engaged in illegal petroleum dealings to cease immediately or face severe legal consequences.

“We are committed to protecting critical national assets, especially in the solid minerals sector,” he emphasized.

The operation highlights the ongoing efforts to curb illegal oil activities in the region, which pose significant environmental and economic risks.
