The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has strongly condemned the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for allegedly attempting to stir public sympathy over the ongoing local government crisis in the state.

In a statement issued on Wednesday by the APC’s Director of Media and Information, Kola Olabisi, the party affirmed that its actions were in line with the Court of Appeal’s ruling, which reinstated elected APC chairmen and councillors.

The APC also accused the PDP, led by State Chairman Sunday Bisi and Governor Ademola Adeleke, of being the main aggressors in the political turmoil.

“It does not take ‘rocket science’ to see that the Osun PDP… has been the aggressor in this crisis,” Olabisi said.

The APC also took aim at Governor Adeleke, claiming he had deployed “goons” to attack APC supporters, and criticized Bisi for frequently insulting top figures like President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Minister Adegboyega Oyetola.

“Such behaviour does not demonstrate strength of character,” Olabisi stated, adding that it only highlighted Bisi’s “weakness.”

The statement also questioned Bisi’s recent comments, calling them “crocodile tears.” The APC emphasized that these remarks would not deter the police from investigating the killings of APC members. Olabisi specifically referenced the tragic killing of Hon. Remi Abass, the APC Chairman of Irewole Local Government, in a suspected attack by PDP thugs.

“Does the embattled state PDP chairman want to tell the good people of Osun State that it was not his party’s hired thugs who killed our serving chairman?” Olabisi queried.

The APC also condemned Bisi for attacking the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, for carrying out his constitutional duties. Olabisi stated that the IGP could not be faulted for enforcing the Court of Appeal’s decision, under Section 287(2) of the 1999 Constitution.

Bisi and the PDP have recently accused IGP Egbetokun of plotting to assassinate Governor Adeleke and destabilize the state. These claims came during a press conference where the PDP alleged the police were involved in orchestrating violence by escorting “miscreants” into local government offices.
