The All Progressives Congress (APC) has officially taken control of various local governments in Osun State, including Atakumosa West, Ilesa West, and Ifedayo Local Government, and ordered the immediate freezing of council accounts.
Hon. Abiodun Idowu, Chairman of Ifedayo Local Government and ALGON chair in the state, issued a stern warning against any illegal transactions involving public funds. He emphasized, “Any form of illegal transaction will have consequences,” directing that officials steer clear of council resources under APC control.
Idowu also condemned the planned local government election by the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSSIEC), saying, “There is no vacancy in any of the 30 councils for them to fill.” He affirmed the APC’s commitment to good governance, announcing plans to reabsorb 1,500 teachers and over 2,000 health workers dismissed by Governor Ademola Adeleke.
“The 1,500 teachers and over 2,000 health workers employed by the APC government… will be reabsorbed into the system,” Idowu stated, explaining that this will not impede the state’s progress.
Meanwhile, tensions are escalating as the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) accuses the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, and the APC of orchestrating plans to destabilize the state and eliminate Governor Adeleke. “The plan to prevent the local government election from holding has been exposed,” said Sunday Bisi, PDP chairman.
In response to the APC’s actions, Osun State Speaker Adewale Egbedun condemned the takeover of council secretariats, describing it as an “attack on democratic institutions.” He warned, “No individual, no matter how highly placed, should manipulate security agencies to serve political interests.”
The opposition Action Peoples Party (APP) has called the APC’s actions “illegal,” referencing a valid court judgment delivered in favor of the APP, which deemed the positions of council chairmen and councillors vacant. APP Chairman Odesola Titus criticized the APC’s actions as those of “impostors” and demanded their immediate arrest.
