The Osun State Chairman of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), Hon. Adebayo Adewale, has issued a stern warning to Governor Ademola Adeleke against using state funds to support the newly sworn-in local government chairmen and councillors, calling them “sit-at-home” officials.
In a statement on Monday, Adebayo criticized the legitimacy of the elected council executives, who were sworn in on Sunday after the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSIEC) declared the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) the winner of the recent local government elections.
Following the swearing-in, Governor Adeleke instructed the new officials to stay away from the local government secretariats until an ongoing dispute over control is settled.
Adebayo said, “We are deeply displeased with Governor Adeleke for breaching the constitution he swore to uphold. He flaunted the Court of Appeal verdict despite warnings from the Federal government and the IGP.”
He further cautioned, “Funding sit-at-home chairmen and councillors with state allocation will amount to another breach of the constitution, and we will be counting all these sins against the governor.”
The APM chairman insisted that the state’s resources should not be used to support these controversial executives while the crisis persists, stressing that it could lead to a disruption in the funding from the federal government. “We are sure the federal government will stop money going to the councils amid the crisis,” he added.
