The Osun State House of Assembly has issued a stern warning regarding a reported plot by the opposition party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), aimed at inciting violence throughout the state.
In an official statement issued on Monday, the Assembly expressed deep concern over what it described as a “sinister” attempt to destabilize Osun and called for immediate intervention from security authorities.
The Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Adewale Egbedun, emphasized the importance of maintaining peace and security in the state, urging the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to uphold the professionalism and neutrality expected from law enforcement officers in handling the situation.
“We call upon the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to ensure that his officers uphold the highest standards of professionalism, remaining neutral in their essential role of maintaining security in Osun,” Egbedun said.
The Assembly also accused Alhaji Gboyega Oyetola, former governor and member of the opposition APC, of using his political influence and family ties to the President to manipulate security leadership, thus fostering unrest in the state.
The statement further noted that the Appeal Court had not issued any ruling to reinstate the chairmen from the controversial Yes/No election, rejecting any moves to “subvert justice” on the matter.
“We are aware that Alhaji Gboyega Oyetola is exploiting his ministerial influence and his familial connection to the President to manipulate security leadership, thereby fostering an environment of unrest,” the release stated.
The House underscored the importance of adhering to the judicial decision, referencing the Appeal Judgment delivered on January 13, 2025, which upheld the November 2022 decision by the Osogbo Federal High Court, led by Hon. Justice N. Ayo Emmanuel. The judgment had earlier ruled the chairmen’s removal from office.
“We implore the IGP to ensure that his officers act with integrity and resist the provocations of a bad loser intent on causing chaos in our cherished state,” the Speaker declared.
In closing, the Assembly warned against the kind of violence that has recently plagued Rivers State, leading to loss of lives and destruction of property. The House pledged to stand firm against any attempts to bring such turmoil to Osun.
“The world has witnessed the tragic violence in Rivers State, resulting in loss of lives and destruction of property; we refuse to allow such turmoil to take root in Osun and will stand firm against any threats to our peace,” Egbedun concluded.
This statement highlights the Assembly’s commitment to upholding peace, integrity, and justice in Osun, urging all parties to refrain from any actions that could lead to further division or violence.
