Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, has declared that his administration is on the verge of making history through transformative infrastructural developments across the state.

Speaking during the 159th State Executive Council meeting in Yenagoa on Wednesday, Diri emphasized that his government’s legacy would be anchored on landmark achievements in roads, power, education, and sports.

“We have done very well. The projects we inherited, we have completed most of them. We also started our own projects,” he stated. “Today, we are sure of the Nembe-Brass Road… the Federal Government awarded phase two while we are doing the first phase.”

He highlighted key road projects, including the Oporoma–Ukubie–Koluama route with a 600-metre bridge at Angiama slated for completion this year, and the Ekeremor-Agge road, which is set for further expansion.

On energy, Diri said: “Power is also there as we are procuring our turbines for independent power in Bayelsa State,” citing recent collaboration with the Federal Government’s Rural Electrification Agency.

In education, he announced the inauguration of six new secondary schools in Yenagoa and revealed a new focus on hands-on, technical education. “We began a paradigm shift… by building science and technical colleges in every local government area,” he added.

Governor Diri also celebrated Bayelsa’s triumph at the maiden Niger Delta Sports Festival, where Team Bayelsa clinched 42 gold, 29 silver, and 15 bronze medals to top the table.

“Team work, individuals at their best, good management and perseverance paid off. I hope and believe that this will be the turning point for Bayelsa,” he said.

He further reaffirmed his commitment to completing the state’s FIFA-rated stadium project, noting it was not a misplaced priority. “We believe that we have an abundance of talents and skills… and we need to bring up those talents by providing facilities.”

Diri urged his cabinet to remain focused, warning against distractions from individuals who do not have Bayelsa’s best interests at heart.

“We are doing very well. Let us remain focused and not be distracted,” he said.

He concluded by thanking Bayelsans for their warm reception of the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, during her visit, calling it a testament to the state’s hospitality.
