Oyetola Appoints Ex gov Aregbesola’s Commissioner, Sunday Akere, Debo Badru as Political Advisers

The Governor of Osun State, Mr Gboyega Oyetola, has appointed Hon. Sunday Akere and Hon. Debo Badru as his Special Advisers on Political Matters.

The Commissioner for Information and Civic Orientation, Mrs Funke Egbemode, announced the appointment in a statement issued after the State’s Executive Council Meeting on Monday.

According to the statement, Akere and Badru’s appointments take effect from October 18, 2021.

Akere, a former Commissioner for Information and Strategy in the State, is an alumnus of the University of Ibadan where he obtained a Bachelor of Science. He is also a member of several professional bodies including Nigerian Institute of Public Relations, Institute of Strategic Management of Nigeria, and the Civilian Institute of Democratic Administration, Ghana.

He is a member of the governing board of the Nigerian Institute of Oceanography and Marine Research.

Akere is an experienced politician and strong party man, having previously served as: Member, Presidential Transition and Inauguration Team in May 2015; Chairman of the All Progressive Congress State Congress Committee to Abia State in 2014; member, All Progressive Congress National Convention Committee in May 2018; and Secretary to the Osun State All Progressive Congress State Congress Committee in October 2021, among many other political involvements.

Badru, an astute political strategist from Iwo local government of Osun State, and a respected community leader, holds a Diploma from Nigerian Air Force Technical Training School, Kaduna, and served as an Air Force Officer between 1983 and 1990, when he retired to venture into politics.

He has served in different administrative capacities on Osun’s political corridor, ranging from Executive Personal Assistant to the first democratic governor of Osun to his appointment as a Senior Special Assistant to the Governor of the State between 2016 and 2018.
