Oyo State has committed to enhancing access to potable water for its residents, according to the chairman of the Oyo State Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency, Babalola Afobaje.

Speaking in Ibadan during this year’s World Water Day celebration, Afobaje emphasized the state government’s ongoing efforts to improve water infrastructure.

“The Oyo State Government will continue to collaborate with relevant stakeholders to expand access to potable water, enhance climate-resilient infrastructure, and strengthen policies that ensure a water-secure future for the state,” Afobaje said.

Afobaje also reflected on the importance of glacier preservation, highlighting that while Nigeria does not have glaciers, their rapid melting poses global environmental threats, including rising sea levels and freshwater shortages that could impact the country.

He stressed that these challenges underscore the urgent need to address water security in the face of climate change.

World Water Day, observed on March 22, raises awareness of the global water crisis and emphasizes the need to achieve Sustainable Development Goal 6, ensuring water and sanitation for all by 2030.
