The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun State has raised alarm over what it describes as a calculated attempt to assassinate Governor Ademola Adeleke.

The party claims the deployment of special forces by the Inspector General of Police (IGP) is part of an orchestrated plan to destabilize the state, particularly in the lead-up to Saturday’s local government council elections.

Addressing journalists at the party’s Secretariat on Wednesday, the PDP Chairman, Sunday Bisi, expressed grave concerns over the security situation in the state, accusing the All Progressives Congress (APC) of plotting to undermine the democratically elected government of Governor Adeleke.

Bisi charged that the deployment of special forces to escort alleged miscreants into local government councils was an act of “blatant coup.” He stated, “Mr. Egbetokun’s deliberate deployment of Special Forces under him to escort some miscreants into the local government councils in the state was nothing but a blatant coup.”

He further added that these actions were part of a broader strategy by the APC, which has been in motion since the party was ousted from power in 2022. “These plans have been on the cards of the APC in Osun State since the good people of Osun State voted them out of office in 2022,” Bisi said.

The PDP leader also called on the international community to intervene, urging the global community to press the IGP to stop enabling any threats against the governor. “The whole world must warn and prevail on Mr. Kayode Egbetokun to desist from being an enabler of orchestrated attempts on the life of our Governor,” Bisi emphasized.

As tensions rise ahead of the crucial local government elections, the PDP insists that the integrity and safety of Governor Adeleke must be safeguarded at all costs.
