The opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara State has criticized Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s leadership style, claiming that his administration is autocratic and dismissive of teamwork.

Following the governor’s swearing-in of two new commissioners as part of a cabinet reshuffle on Monday, he emphasized the importance of teamwork in governance, stating, “In leadership, and especially in public service, the strength of any administration lies in the power of teamwork.”

However, the PDP rejected his statements, calling them empty rhetoric. Olusegun Adewara, the PDP Publicity Secretary, accused AbdulRazaq of running a “solo government” where commissioners serve only as figureheads, with no meaningful input in decision-making.

Adewara criticized the lack of regular State Executive Council meetings since the governor took office, labeling the few that were held as “rubber-stamping sessions.”

“The few that did take place were nothing but rubber-stamping sessions, where decisions made in the governor’s bedroom—often drafted and passed through WhatsApp messages—are sheepishly ratified,” Adewara stated.

The PDP also questioned the governor’s claims of progress, pointing to Kwara’s poor performance in healthcare and rising poverty rates despite claims of heavy investments in social programs.

“If his policies are effective, why are people suffering more?” Adewara added, referring to a report that ranked Kwara as the third-worst state in primary healthcare.

In light of these accusations, the PDP has called for greater accountability from the AbdulRazaq administration.
