The Presidency has disclaimed the recent emergence of campaign billboards promoting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima for the 2027 general elections, describing them as “unauthorised” and “premature.”
In a press statement issued on Sunday, April 13, 2025, by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, the Presidency expressed concern over the growing number of such billboards, particularly in Abuja and Kano.
“The Presidency has observed, with dismay, the increasing number of billboards in some cities promoting the 2027 campaign for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima,” the statement read.
While acknowledging the enthusiasm of loyal supporters, the Presidency stressed that neither Tinubu nor Shettima has sanctioned any campaign ahead of the official timetable to be set by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
“President Tinubu and Vice President Shettima do not support any campaign that breaches the laws of the land,” Onanuga stated. “Until the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) sets the timetable for the 2027 elections, the President has not endorsed or authorised anyone or any group to mount a 2027 campaign for him through any media channel.”
The release warned that such premature political activity could “undermine the integrity of the electoral process and create unfair advantages.”
Calling for an immediate halt to the ongoing campaign materials, the Presidency emphasized that the administration remains focused on governance and national development.
“President Tinubu and his deputy are fully committed to delivering the ongoing task of nation-building they have set for themselves,” Onanuga added, citing priorities such as economic revitalisation, infrastructural renewal, and national security.
The Presidency concluded by assuring Nigerians that President Tinubu will make his intentions known “when INEC signals that the processes for the 2027 elections can start.”
